9/26/05 These instructions step you through the update from De Novo CaseMgr v.2.0.8 to the latest v.2.0.9b. (A list of changes is at the bottom of this file...) This ReadMe accompanies the CaseMgr 208-209 update files. But first let's make sure this updater IS the one you need... If you are already using any version prior to 2.0.8, you should first use the appropriate updaters for moving from that version to v.2.0.8, and THEN use this updater to install v.2.0.9. The other updaters on the Updates page each contain the update files needed to update one particular version of CaseMgrDATA to v.2.0.8. The newest updater takes it from there and updates both CaseMgrDATA and the CaseMgr Program folder to v.2.0.9 IMPORTANT TO NOTE: The updater.app files, used to update the CaseMgrDATA folder, may be run from any copy of De Novo CaseMgr currently linked to the shared CaseMgrDATA folder. These updates needs to be run only one time. There is no need to run the updates from multiple copies of CaseMgr. The shared data folder is updated, and all workstations will be sharing the updated data folder. In multi-user installations, each licensed De Novo CaseMgr program folder (on the local C: drive) will also be updated (using this 208-209.exe self-extracting zip archive) to replace the De Novo CaseMgr.exe with the latest version 2.0.9 of that file. De Novo CaseMgr cannot be running when you replace the .exe file! To determine which version is currently installed, run De Novo CaseMgr and go to the Help Menu. Choose "About De Novo CaseMgr". Versions 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 will be identified by that number. If you are using v.2.0.4 or later, the window will say something like "v. 2.0.40/2.0.4" or "v.2.0.50/2.0.5". The first number is the version of your local De Novo CaseMgr.exe file, the second, the version of the CaseMgrDATA folder. They should be the SAME version. If you are not currently using v.2.0.8 of the data folder, use one of the other updaters to update your data folder to v.2.0.8, and then use this 2.0.8-2.0.9 updater to update both the data and program to v.2.0.9 The following files for the update from v.2.0.8 to 2.0.9 have been installed by the self-extracting zip archive that also held this ReadMe.txt file. When run, it extracted the new files directly into the local De Novo CaseMgr program folder (unless De Novo CaseMgr was running locally, in which case it just generated an error message announcing "Could not create output file..."). * "De Novo CaseMgr.exe" Replace the old De Novo CaseMgr.exe file with the new v.2.0.9 version before running the "update 2.0.8 to 2.0.9b.app" data updater app, but don't attempt to do anything with your data until all updates are run and the new De Novo CaseMgr.exe has replaced the old one in everyone's De Novo CaseMgr program folders. Let the new version replace the old on each licensed station if you have a multi-user installation. After replacing the program executable, do not use CaseMgr for working with your data until the data folder has been updated to the same version- in this case, v.2.0.9, by running the 208-209b update .app file (and any other updaters that are needed). The update .app files are used in succession to update the data folder. If you're already running v.2.0.8, you only need one update .app; the one provided here. If your version of CaseMgr is an earlier one, you will run several update .app files from the Administration Menu's Update CaseMgr... option. This update process should be done just once, from any station. * "Update 208 to 209b.app" This is used while De Novo CaseMgr is running , to update the data folder from v. 2.0.8 to v.2.0.9b. Access it from the "Update CaseMgr..." option in the Administration Menu. It requires CaseMgr to quit and restart after running. Your data folder is now current! When you start the correctly updated software, the Startup splash- screen will say "v.2.0.90/2.0.9b, indicating that both the data folder and the program folder are at v.2.0.9. (Windows 98 or earlier may show only "v.2.0.9") Final redundant note: all data update apps need to be run just once, on any workstation, to update the data folder, but each program folder needs the latest De Novo CaseMgr.exe. De Novo Systems Support support@denovosys.com 360-695-9372 Changes since v.2.0.8: *The tune-up routine now corrects more types of data corruption. This change fixes some instances in which data corruption prevented the tune-up process from completing successfully. *The master database file (DCM_2.dbc) is now cleaned up at the end of the tune -up process. Previously, this file got larger each time the tune-up was run, which could potentially cause performance and other problems. *After adding the first client to a matter, there is no longer text drawn on top of the lower row of tabs on the matter window. *During startup, when "Select Data Location" is clicked, the default directory is now the root of the C: drive, rather than the CaseMgr program folder. *Fixed "Too many arguments" error in module FILESIZE (as initially applied in De Novo CaseMgr.exe 2.0.82) *Fixed relatively rare "unknown member" errors. *Fixed "a member object with this name already exists" error in the matter attorneys tab, the conflict checker, and the calendar. *Fixed, or greatly reduced "error reading file" errors in module DBFSIZEOK. Because these errors can be caused by disk or network problems over which De Novo CaseMgr has no control, they can't always be prevented. *Fixed a problem with changes to the times alone on the Pleadings/Motions/Orders and Depositions tabs not automatically updating the corresponding calendar item.
